A California-based company called Cove created a biodegradable water bottle, which, to my knowledge, is the first biodegradable bottle of its kind.
The cove bottle is made from PHA, which is a group of natural biodegradable polyesters synthesized by microorganisms. Cove was launched last year, so it's currently available through invitation. It is a new sustainable product, so the price on the website is not shown yet, but from my research I'd guess around $3-$10. the Cove bottle is reusable up until the use-by date.
We have been using plastic bottles for a long time. Since plastic doesn't decompose and only 9% of plastic bottles get recycled, the rest get incinerated, left in the environment, or just sit in landfills or elsewhere for centuries. I hope Cove has much success selling its bottles and more eco-friendly/sustainable-focused companies follow. If you or anyone lives the eco-friendly/sustainable lifestyle, this bottle is right up your alley. I would definitely buy a couple of Coves bottles myself.
